On Sunday one of my colleagues and I went on a road trip from Bodø to Bardufoss. It´s a six hours drive, but it didn´t feel like we travelled for that long. It was mainly due to a combination of having a good time and the beautiful scenery that revealed itself at every turn.
Sometimes I feel a bit small when I am surrounded by huge mountains. At the same time, the mountains have been here longer than us, so I also feel safe whilst among them.
At least when I get to admire them from a distance. I think I have told you about my fear of heights in another blog post.
Besides, right now the avalanche hazard is pretty high. In addition it is about minus ten degrees celsius outside. So taking photos from a car window, with occasional stops to take some quick photos outside saved me from looking like something that Elsa from the Disney-movie Frozen could use as decoration for her ice castle.
We also decided to eat in the car, admiring the beautiful view. Later we stopped at a café to drink some coffee and eat a Norwegian waffle, where the view form one side of the house could be a bit interesting for those who love to watch all the details that a pile of snow consists of. I know that for some people, the devil is in the detail.
Due to all the mountains, there were a large number of tunnels that we had to drive through.
Norway has started to use DAB instead of FM radio signals. I think the Government forgot to test the DAB system in the north, because on our trip the radio was not working most of the time. The signals were especially bad inside the tunnels. So if you are a music addict I recommend that you make some good playlists on Spotify or teach yourself some new songs before you choose this route. If you need to do some choir practice without worrying about neighbour complaints, this is the right trip for you.
Norwegian tunnels are mostly pretty dark, and I would imagine that trolls would have the time of their life living in one of these tunnels.
In this tunnel they were doing some maintenance, so we had to wait for about minutes for this car to come and guide us through the tunnel.
I prefer the open landscape to dark tunnels.
In some parts of the main road in Norway, the E6, they have replaced the road with a ferry. Like this one that we took from Bognes to Skarberget.
Bridges are also a common sight. I really love this bridge.
I haven´t seen this much snow in a long time. It was not always that easy to get a glimpse of the nature behind the large snow walls…
There was less snow when we drove alongside the coast.
We decided to stop for dinner in Narvik.
When we got out from the pizza restaurant we noticed that a part of the mountain had turned pink.
Which turned out to be the start of a beautiful sunset.
Bridges, tunnels and mountains. I think the last picture sums up our trip. The only ingredient missing in the picture is the fun we had along the way. So my best advice is to always bring someone with you when you are going on a road trip.
